Alouette is the story of Lark, a contemporary dancer turned stripper. The series follows her downward spiral into pornography and prostitution against a grimy, nightmarish vision of modern-day New Orleans. The music is appropriately dark and sleazy, combining minimal avant-garde jazz with clanking percussion and cavernous piano sustain. Honking saxophones stumble out from behind dumpsters. Strange birds chatter in the trees.
